(For posterity's sake, let's pretend we wrote this 3 weeks ago, OK?)
Last year, we just ignored Halloween, we had too much else to focus on. We decided that maybe it was nice to not let the kids get all whacked out on the candy this year as well, so no trick or treating for us. Now, those of you Halloween fans out there, don't think we don't enjoy the holiday. We just figured they needed their rest, so did we, and as long as they got to dress up and have
some candy, we were good. We also didn't need candy around the house for the next month.
Dante wore his
yukata that Uncle Tommy brought him this summer. Whenever someone asked what he was, he would say "
Kung Fu Master!" and he would try to do something with his arms and legs, not really knowing what we were doing when we tried to show him. Most of the time, he was trying to say "rock n' roll!"
Carina got to wear Dante's former monster costume (that he wore at 5 months.) She was very cooperative for the most part, but once the headpiece slipped off, she wanted nothing to do with putting it back on. Of course, it was super hot that week, so she wasn't in the suit for long before she was overheating.
All was good, because we got to attend a good friend's Halloween party. Lots of kids and adults dressed up. Dante and Carina had a blast and Chris and I won a costume contest!
At Dante's school, they had a harvest party on Halloween morning. Chris went and helped out and got some adorable photos of the kids in his class walking through to all the other classes.
I can tell by some of the photos that Dante was totally confused at what was happening, but having fun anyways.
(His buddies, Jayesh the kangaroo and Cyler AKA Scooby Doo, waiting for the class.)
Chris spent most of those 2 weeks around Halloween working on the neighborhood Haunted Hike. That gave us another excuse to get out and see decorations and people dressed up. (And another chance for Carina to point out the festive pumpkin on her shirt.)
We had a good time, even went 2 nights in a row. The kids thought it was pretty cool to be out walking in the neighborhood at night. I was just surprised that neither one fell asleep! (or maybe I was just hoping too much for that...) We were coming off of Chris being out of town for a week and some doctor's appointments, so October is a blur for me.
